This dimensional sequin lace is worked on a fine nude-blush tulle ground, with
layered petal-shaped sequins arranged into raised flowers that sit proud of the
surface rather than flat against it. The flowers are picked out with short gold
thread accents and a scatter of tiny white floral sprigs, so the pattern reads
as three distinct layers — sequin, thread and sheer ground — rather than a
single printed motif.
The colour is the point. On a warm blush base the sequins read soft and
feminine rather than harsh, which makes this the kind of lace that suits bridal
and occasionwear — bridesmaids’ dresses, prom and evening gowns, sheer overlays
and sleeves, dance and performance costumes. Because the ground is a true tulle,
it layers easily over lining or a slip, and a nude under-layer keeps the floral
work visible while the mesh itself stays discreet.
At the metre, the appliqué is dense enough to carry a panel on its own, so it
works for statement pieces — an overlay skirt, a bodice panel, a sheer overlay
top. Where you want it to disappear into a lining, the mesh is fine enough to
quilt or layer without bulk. Note that the sequins and gold thread have a
slight stiffness, so use a fine needle and take small stitches along the
embroidery lines to avoid snagging.
